What to look for in a quality wood carving. Quality of the wood – should be a fairly consistent colour. Large colour variation especially if large white patches, maybe an indication of immature wood being used. (Exception is the use of parasite wood and those most commonly used for dolphin statues.) Quality of the carving – Proportions and features should be correct and clear.
